UGC videos with AI
UGC stands for user generated content, videos that look as though customers filmed them themselves. In social ads that style works better than gloss, because it does not read as advertising. We produce videos in that style with generative AI, with the product at the centre.
What a UGC video is
UGC video describes neither a placement nor a subject but a style: vertical, handheld, natural light, ambient sound, subtitles, no studio look. The style works because the feed does not read it as advertising. That is also exactly where the limit comes from. The form may be rebuilt, the claim may not. We produce the style, not invented testimonials.
UGC video, testimonial or influencer video?
Three words often used as if they meant the same thing, although only one of them describes a style. The other two claim something about reality, and the legal assessment hangs on that.
| Term | What it is | What it claims |
|---|---|---|
| UGC video | a style, rebuilt | nothing, as long as nobody appears as a customer |
| Testimonial | a statement by a particular person | that this person had this experience |
| Influencer video | a paid recommendation by a real person | a genuine recommendation, disclosable as advertising |
| Real UGC | a video customers shot themselves | nothing beyond that, but it needs their consent |
We deliver the first row and the fourth. The second and the third need real people, see the guide Testimonial video and AI.
UGC with AI, a creator and your own shoot compared
There are three routes to clips in UGC style. They differ less in the result than in what a second, fifth and tenth variant costs.
| Route | Typical cost | Fits when |
|---|---|---|
| Commission a creator | publicly documented ranges sit at roughly 100 to 500 US dollars per clip from smaller creators | a real person should genuinely say something about the product |
| Shoot it yourself | a shoot day with a small camera team usually 950 to 1,500 € net, plus edit and sound | staff or real customers are to appear on camera |
| AI production with us | from 1,000 € net, every further variant far cheaper than the first | many variants are to be tested and the product is the centre |
The creator ranges come from the US market. They were collected by a Vienna agency which points out itself that reliable figures for the German-speaking market are missing and should be checked against local quotes (blckalpaca, retrieved 24.10.2026). The shoot-day range comes from publicly listed prices of production companies in Austria and Germany, sources under Brand film cost.
Formats and lengths
UGC clips almost always run in portrait. What differs is the length, and that depends on whether you are testing or telling.
| Where it runs | Format | Usual length |
|---|---|---|
| Ad on TikTok, Reels, Shorts | 9:16 | 15 to 30 seconds |
| Hook test in the ad account | 9:16 | 6 to 10 seconds per variant |
| Product detail page and shop | 1:1 or 9:16 | 15 to 30 seconds |
| Organic on your own profile | 9:16 | 20 to 45 seconds |
What we produce
- Unboxing and first use: hands, packaging, product, all from the first-person view.
- Everyday scenes with the product: kitchen, bathroom, car, building site, desk, with the feel of a phone video.
- Before and after as a visual comparison, without claiming an effect the product does not have.
- Problem and solution in ten seconds, the classic structure for TikTok and Reels.
- Hook variants: the same scene with five different openings, so you can test in the ad account.

Where we draw the line
The form may be rebuilt, the claim may not
A UGC ad copies a visual language; that is a design decision and it is allowed. A testimonial additionally claims something about reality, namely that this person had this experience. An invented customer describing an experience that never happened is misleading advertising, however convincingly it is produced.
Austrian unfair competition law expressly prohibits, in Annex Z 23c, submitting fake consumer reviews or endorsements and misrepresenting such endorsements on social media for promotional purposes (UWG, Annex, retrieved 09.10.2026). Whether a human or a model produced the endorsement makes no difference. On top of that comes the disclosure duty in Article 50 of the AI Act, as soon as a video convincingly recreates real or plausibly real people. So with us:
- No invented testimonial. Anyone saying something about a product's effect has to have used it.
- No recognisable real people without their consent, and no rebuilt faces or voices either.
- Testimonials hybrid: your real customers film on a phone, we edit, finish and add AI scenes for product shots and transitions.
- Labelling supplied: a note in the metadata, a ready line for the description, visible on screen on request.
What is technically possible and legally clean is also described in our guide to AI labelling in advertising.
Why AI suits UGC advertising in particular
UGC advertising lives on volume and speed. A piece of material is used up after a few weeks, and nobody knows in advance which hook will pull. With a conventional production every extra variant costs another shoot day. With AI variants come out of the same template: different surroundings, different time of day, different opening, the same product rendering.
For the test in the ad account that means you do not get one video but a family of variants that differ in exactly one thing. That is what makes the results readable in the first place.
What we need from you
- Product photos from several angles, the label as a file.
- Your key statements, and what you are legally allowed to say about the product.
- The platform and the goal of the campaign, because hook and length depend on it.
- If you have them: real customer videos we are allowed to use.
How a project runs
- First call: 30 minutes, product, platform and number of variants.
- Hooks and scenes: we propose the openings that should run against each other.
- Styleframes: you approve the product rendering and the feel.
- Production: base clip and variants, subtitles, ambient sound.
- Delivery: all variants in portrait, with a note on labelling.
That is the short version. All nine steps with the approvals are on Process.
Common questions
Does Syntax Motion make UGC videos with AI?
Yes. We produce advertising videos in UGC style with generative AI, with the product at the centre: unboxing, everyday scenes, problem and solution, plus hook variants for A/B testing. What we do not make are invented people appearing as real customers giving a recommendation.
What does a UGC video with AI cost?
Projects start at 1,000 € net. Because several variants come out of one template, each additional one is far cheaper than the first. Commissioning a clip from a smaller creator costs roughly 100 to 500 US dollars according to publicly documented US ranges, and for that you get a real person rather than a generated scene. The fixed price is named in the offer, see Pricing.
Can I present an AI UGC video as a real customer video?
No. Fake consumer endorsements are unfair under Annex Z 23c of the Austrian unfair competition act in every case. On top of that the disclosure duty in Article 50 of the AI Act applies when the video looks convincingly real. As recognisably staged advertising, the UGC style is unproblematic.
How many variants do I need for a test?
Better a few clearly different hooks than many similar clips. Every variant needs enough delivery for the result to mean anything. We match the number to your budget in the first call.
Can you use real customer videos?
Yes, and for testimonials that is the right route. Your customers film on a phone, we handle the edit, sound and subtitles and add product scenes from AI. You need written consent from the people filmed.
