Post-production
Post-production is everything that happens after the shoot or the generation: editing, colour, sound, graphics, versions and delivery formats. In classic production it follows the shoot; in generative production the weight shifts noticeably towards it.
The steps in order
- Review and select: the usable material is picked out of everything produced.
- Rough cut: order and length are set, the structure is approved.
- Fine cut: rhythm, transitions, frame holds.
- Colour correction and grading: match first, then design.
- Graphics and type: titles, logo, subtitles, call to action.
- Sound: sound design, music, speech, mix.
- Delivery: versions per format, frame rate and platform, see aspect ratio.
Why the weight shifts here in AI production
On a shoot the effort sits in the day: crew, equipment, light, location. Post then works with what was captured. In generative production, producing is fast and cheap but yields a hundred shots of which twenty hold up. Selecting, correcting and assembling becomes the main part of the work.
For the schedule that means the date on which you see the first complete film comes later than many expect, because there is no shoot day after which only assembly remains. In exchange, changes before that point are cheaper.
Frequently asked questions
What belongs to post-production?
Editing, colour correction and grading, sound design, music and speech, graphics and subtitles, plus delivery in all agreed formats. In generative productions, reviewing and selecting the produced shots counts as well.
How long does post-production take?
It depends on length, number of shots and versions. We fix the schedule in the offer with the approval points as firm dates. In practice delays come more often from late feedback than from the work itself.
Can post-production be commissioned separately?
Yes. If you have material that needs editing, colour matching and sound, we do that without producing it ourselves. The same holds for generated scenes, provided the files come at usable resolution.
