AI film

An AI film is a film whose images are mostly produced by generative models rather than captured with a camera. Concept, direction, selection, editing and sound stay human work. AI film is therefore not a genre but a production route, equally suited to brand films, commercials and social ads.

What is actually different

The difference sits before the result, not in it. A shot film is made on a day when crew, equipment, light and cast are in the same place at the same time. That day is expensive, has to be planned and cannot be repeated. An AI film is made over several days at a desk, in loops of generating, checking and discarding.

From that follows the most important number of the method: for one shot that makes the finished film, at least five are produced that nobody sees. On a one-minute film that is around a hundred generations, of which roughly twenty end up on screen. That waste is not a flaw in the method, it is the method.

What stays human work

Where an AI film runs into limits

When specific real people have to appear, your team or customers describing their experience, there is no way around a recording. Long dialogue in close-up stays demanding because lipsync has to hold across seconds. And products with exact labels need manual correction, because models do not reliably render type.

In those cases hybrid production is the honest route: the people are filmed, worlds and effects come from AI. The comparison is set out in AI video or traditional shoot.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI film?

An AI film is a film whose images are produced by generative models instead of being recorded with a camera. Concept, selection, editing and sound still come from people. The term describes the production route, not the genre.

Is an AI film cheaper than a shoot?

A base film for website and YouTube starts at 3,500 € net with us, a short social spot at 1,000 € net. Shot conventionally the same film sits considerably higher at market rates, and it takes longer, because a shoot day, crew and location have to be organised. How large the gap is in a given case depends on how much is shot, with the ranges set out in what a commercial costs.

Does an AI film have to be labelled?

Not every one. Since 2 August 2026 Article 50 of the AI Act requires disclosure for deepfakes, meaning convincing content showing real or plausibly real people, places or events. YouTube, Meta and TikTok have their own rules on top. See deepfake.

Who owns an AI film?

On payment in full you receive a non-exclusive, worldwide and time-unlimited right of use for the purpose named in the offer. The copyright position for purely machine-generated content is a separate question, described in the guide on copyright in AI video.
