Approval point
An approval point is a place in the project where you sign off before work continues. Its purpose is not bureaucracy but money: changes should happen where they are still cheap, not where they trigger half a production.
The four points with us
| Point | You see | What a change costs here |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Concept | idea, structure, script | almost nothing, only time |
| 2. Styleframes | look, light, colour as stills | a few hours |
| 3. Motion tests | how the look moves | individual generations |
| 4. Rough cut | the whole film in structure | editing, more if shots are missing |
After the fourth point come colour correction, sound design and the versions. Rearranging from here drags the whole finishing behind it.
Why not more points
Every approval costs time on both sides, and too many turn a project into a chain of sign-offs. Four are enough when a real decision happens at each. What does not work is an approval where nobody objects because the actual opinion arrives later.
So we ask for feedback with a reference: "the light is too hard" is usable, "looks odd" is not. And we ask before the project who signs off on your side. Three people with different views in sequence is the most common cause of delay.
Frequently asked questions
What is an approval point?
An approval point is a defined moment in a project at which the client signs off on the current state before the next step begins. It moves changes into phases where they cost little.
What happens if we want a change after approval?
It is possible and charged by effort. Two revision rounds are included in our fixed price. Which ones they are and what is billed beyond them is stated in the offer.
How long do we have for an approval?
We allow a window per point in the schedule, usually two to three working days. Longer is no problem but shifts the delivery date, because work pauses in the meantime.
